Matty has a bachelors degree in jazz performance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was trained by the world renowned bassist Salvatore Maccia, studying both classical and jazz. While at Umass, Matt was a recipient of the 23rd Annual Down Beat Award for Performance in the Jazz Studio Orchestra. Since graduating, he has moved to the Boston area and has been involved in many different musical projects including big band, funk, rock, along with contemporary jazz. Matt’s been known and hired as a bass player due to his reputation of pushing the envelope of creativity in modern music. He has earned this reputation through the experience of playing with such musicians as Steve Turre (SNL Band), Bruce Bartlett, Steve Hunt, Eric Krasno (Soulive), Adam Kolker, Mike Valeras, The Dommy V. Swing Out Big Band, and The Freelance Bishops. He has also spent some time traveling the world on a variety of cruise lines, where he played everything from modern jazz to show music.
